Break-out Cable

A break-out cable, also known as a fan-out cable or branchable cable, is an optical cable with a branching structure that can distribute light signals from the main cable to different terminal devices.

Typically, a break-out optical cable consists of multiple single-core optical fibers tightly arranged around a central strengthening element, which is then wrapped with a protective tape and covered with a layer of PVC or LSZH (low-smoke zero-halogen) material. The design features a 900 μm tight-buffered fiber, with the number of fibers ranging from 2 to 24. The branching structure allows for the creation of cuts or isolation zones at specific points along the cable, enabling the separation of sub-cables to meet various branching requirements.

When branching is needed during cable installation, the intermittent branch cuts on the outer sheath can be easily opened to divide the cable into the required number of strands without cutting the entire cable. This reduces the workload, decreases labor intensity, and improves work efficiency.

Break-out cables are widely used in various communication networks, including telecommunications, broadcasting, the internet, data centers, and smart grids. They are particularly suitable for scenarios requiring flexible branching, such as building wiring, data center connections, fiber to the desk (FTTD), security surveillance, and smart buildings.
